therefore was asked to develop the next generation of CAT rugged smartphones, evolving the form language to entice a new broader ‘consumer’ audience, without alienating the ‘CAT heartland’ purchasing base.”
This meant creating devices which have a premium and slim feel, whilst not compromising on its rugged credentials.
With a thickness of 9.7mm, the S52 is the thinnest CAT phone released to date, satisfying the client’s request that the phone feel ‘pocketable’ in contrast to previous bulkier models
The casing of the S52 is a tough twin shot moulding, with a polycarbonate chassis and TPU skin. The polycarbonate has been exposed on the back of the phone, creating a strong material break.
CNC milled aluminium bumpers provided a sturdy frame, whilst adding a premium touchpoint to the smartphone
